Undocumented Immigrant Film High Tide Set for North American Release (EXCLUSIVE)

High Tide,” a drama film about undocumented immigrants in the U.S., is set for a theatrical release in North America later this year.

The film which was directed by Marco Calvani and had its premiere at the recent SXSW festival, was licensed to Strand Releasing by LD Entertainment.

The narrative follows a heartbroken undocumented Brazilian immigrant over the course of one summer in the U.S. Adrift and seeking connection in the queer mecca of Provincetown, he meets a charismatic man who seems to share his feelings of alienation and uncertainty in the country.

The film stars Brazilian actor Marco Pigossi (“Gen V”) and Emmy-nominated James Bland (“Giants”) in the leading roles. It also sees Oscar-winner Marisa Tomei (“My Cousin Vinny”), Tony-winner Bill Irwin (“Rachel Getting Married”), and Independent Spirit-winner Mya Taylor (“Tangerine”) in supporting roles.

The film’s producers are Mickey Liddell and Pete Shilaimon of LD Entertainment, along with Calvani. The rights deal was done between Jon Gerrans of Strand Releasing and Michael Glassman of LD Entertainment. 

“It’s an elegant and moving film that captures the current situation of the undocumented seeking a foothold here and the struggles they are encountering,” said Marcus Hu, of Strand Releasing
Writer and director, Calvani was born in Italy and has a professional background in both theater and film.

His first short film “The View From Up Here” starred Oscar-winner Melissa Leo and César-winner Leïla Bekhti and was an adaptation of a stage play commissioned by The Actors Studio in 2016. Calvani’s second short film “A Better Half” was named best short of 2022 by the British Film Magazine Close-Up. 
Strand has current releases of Fatih Akin’s “Rhinegold,” Bradley Rust Gray’s Sundance winner, “I’ll Be Your Mirror” and Ray Yeung’s “All Shall Be Well.”

Headed by Liddell and Shilaimon, LD Entertainment is an independent studio that finances and produces elevated and thoughtful films, television and live theatrical shows. Among its 40 film credits are “Judy,” “Jackie,” “Ben Is Back,” “The Zookeeper’s Wife,” and Oscar-nominated “Biutiful.” “High Tide” is its second theatrical release this year after the recent opening of “National Anthem.”
